Edythe J. Kase

Edythe J. Kase, 92, of 398 4th Street Riverside PA died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at her residence.  She was born January 25, 1917 in Mifflintown PA the daughter of the late William L. and Lydia E. Shotzberger Houtz. 

She was a graduate of William Penn High School in Harrisburg PA.  She was employed as an LPN by Harrisburg State Hospital.  Edythe was also employed for 38 years as a dental assistant by Dr. Francis Homet Vaughan, retiring in 1984.   

Edythe was a member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church Danville PA.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary. She volunteered at Geisinger Health System in Danville PA for many years. An avid bowler, she was a member of the Pennsylvania Women’s Bowling Association.  She enjoyed knitting, jigsaw puzzles and playing pinochle at the Pine Barn Inn.  Edythe also enjoyed her family, especially her many grandchildren.

 She was married for 39 years to the late James A. Kase, Jr. who preceded her in death May 13, 1979.  They were married April 15, 1940.  She is survived by two sons; James A. Kase, III and his wife Phoebe of Lewisburg PA and Steven A. Kase of Narvon PA and one daughter Patricia A. Dewalt and her husband Marlin E. of Riverside PA.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is a niece Darlene Smith and family of Mifflintown PA.  She was preceded in death by two brothers; Chester Groninger and H. Dale Houtz.   

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to be held Friday, April 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA with the Reverend Nancy Shank officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Memorial Episcopal Church PO Box 363 Danville PA  17821 or the American Cancer Society Montour Unit 1948 E 3rd Street Williamsport PA  17701.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 West Mahoning Street Danville PA.  www.visneski.com
