W. Earl Kashner, 80

July 1, 2008

W. Earl Kashner, 80, of McCracken Road Danville PA passed away Monday June 30 2008 at his residence.  He was born December 15 1927 in Bloomsburg PA the son of the late Walter E. and Mary Kitchen Kashner. 

He graduated from Danville High School in 1945.  He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1947.  Mr. Kashner was employed at the quarry between Danville and Bloomsburg following his discharge..  He was also employed for 37 years at Merck, Inc. Riverside PA retiring in 1990.  Following his retirement he enjoyed working for his brother-in-law Robert at Krumís Orchard in Catawissa PA.   Mr. Kashner served as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in South Carolina. 

He was active in the former Mausdale United Church of Christ serving as Sunday School Superintendent and as a Sunday School teacher.  One of his greatest enjoyments was traveling to Bar Harbor Maine in the Fall and going on whale watching excursions. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dawn L. Drake Kashner on August 13 2006.  They were married May 13 1950.  He is survived by three sons; Dale Kashner of Bloomsburg PA; Wayne Kashner and his wife Linda of Catawissa PA and Dean Kashner and his wife Mary of Bloomsburg PA.  Also surviving is one brother Carl Kashner and his wife Hilda of Danville PA and two sisters; Eleanor Hanley and her husband Fred of Montgomery PA and Clara Krum and her husband Robert of Catawissa PA.  Several nieces and nephews also survive him. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service to be held Thursday July 3 2008 at 11:00 AM at Odd Fellows Cemetery 1348 Bloom Road Danville PA with the Reverend David J. Mouw officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to Columbia Montour Home Hospice 410 Glenn Avenue Suite 200 Bloomsburg PA  17815.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 20 W Mahoning Street Danville PA.
