Peggy Jankowski, 74

March 14, 2008

Peggy Jankowski, 74, of 35 Circle View Dr., Elysburg, died peacefully and surrounded by family, on Friday March 14, at the Geisinger Medical Center.

Born in Shamokin on January 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Enoch and Mary (Curran) Povleski.

Peggy, who grew up in Shamokin, graduated from St. Edward's High School in 1952. She spent most of her life in this region and in metropolitan Washington, DC. She married Bernard D. Jankowski on July 24, 1957, at Church of the Immaculate Conception in Towson, MD. They shared 50 years together, deeply committed to each other and most often found by each other's side.

Peggy was known for her sense of style and devotion to family and friends. In the Washington area, Peggy's many activities included bowling, gourmet group, tennis, and spending time supporting her children and their athletic/scholastic pursuits. After their children graduated from high school, Peggy and her husband returned to Shamokin, where they opened the New York Grab Bag boutique on Independence Street. Peggy loved to entertain friends and family and was known to pay attention to the

smallest details, making an event not only special, but memorable. She had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling and new experiences. Peggy could light up a room with her enthusiasm, sharp wit, and quick and easy laughter.

Peggy, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, is survived by her husband Bernard of  Elysburg, PA; son Bernard Jankowski, his wife Kathy, and grandchildren Nick and Marie, of Poolesville, MD; daughter Marylynne, her husband Ned Burns, and grandchildren Lindsey, Kellyn, Grace, and Christopher of Kennett Square, PA.

Peggy is preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Francis, and John Povleski, and two sisters, Miriam Yarema and Ellen Hall. She is survived by three siblings, Robert and Edward Povleski and Rita Matuliewicz, and numerous nieces and nephews.

All who knew Peggy will remember her resilient spirit and undying faith in God.
