Kathryn Ellen Wertman Van Gilder, 90, formerly of 219 West Mahoning Street
Danville PA went to be with the Lord Saturday February 23 2008 at Emmanuel
Center at Maria Joseph Manor Danville PA. She was born October 17 1917 in
Cooper Township Pennsylvania the fourth child and third daughter of
Wellington and Margaret Ellen Mauser Wertman.
She attended Kellar One Room School and graduated from Danville High School
in 1935 where she majored in Business Education. Her first employment was
at Merck and Company in Riverside PA. She was then employed for 12 years at
the Danville News in the Classified Department. Mrs. Van Gilder was
employed at H & C Sales in Bloomsburg PA for 13 years as a purchasing agent
where she retired and was honored at a retirement dinner.
Mrs. Van Gilder was a very active and life member of Trinity Lutheran Church
Danville PA where she was baptized and confirmed at eleven years old. She
was a life member of Danville Chapter #186 Order of the Eastern Star. She
enjoyed music, reading and traveling by bus.
She was married to Roy Wilbur Van Gilder at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Danville in 1936 for 32 years. He preceded her in death in 1968. She is
survived by two sons; Roy W. Van Gilder and his wife Janet of Millheim PA
and Donald L. Van Gilder and his wife Patricia of Allentown PA. Also
surviving are six grandchildren; Roy D. Van Gilder and his wife Elizabeth of
Elmsford NY; Michael Van Gilder and his wife Cass of Sagamore OH; Ilene
Judith Van Gilder of Centre Hall PA; Andrew Van Gilder of Allentown PA; Jill
Buck and her husband Chris of Macungie PA and Jane Horner and her husband
Jeremiah of Emmaus PA. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren;
Tyler, Joshua, Sarah and Alexander Roy of Elmsford NY; Oliver, Evelyn and
Xavier Buck of Macungie PA and Isaac Horner of Emmaus PA. Many nieces and
nephews also survive her.
She was preceded in death by one brother; Aaron Wertman and two sisters;
Ruth Cotner and Grace Hagenbuch. Her long time companion, Grant Mohr of
Strawberry Ridge preceded her in death in 2005.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Graveside service on Wednesday
February 27, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA with her
pastor the Reverend Michael A. Greenauer officiating. An Eastern Star
service will be conducted at 9:00 AM and friends will be received
immediately following until 10:00 AM. at Visneski Funeral Home Inc 10 West
