Francis T. Moyer, 87

December16, 2008

Francis T. Moyer, of 221 West Market St., Danville, Pa. passed away Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pa.  He was born September 23, 1921, and spent the next 87 years in a home that he loved by the river.  He was the son of the late Rolland T. and Miriam A. Moyer. 

He graduated from Danville High School in 1939, and excelled in their athletic programs, with a talent for the game of football.  He entered Bloomsburg State College, were he played football until his father passed.   He then entered the service, and was assigned to the 17th Airborne Division at Camp Mackall, NC.  There he was promoted and transferred to Aberdeen, MD, for training were he qualified as glider-man.  After maneuvers, he trained as a paratrooper, receiving his wings, a promotion, and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division and sent to Berlin. 

He was married to his beloved wife, Mary Jane Hackenberg Moyer who preceded him in death October 10, 2003.  They were married October 1, 1942. 

Mr. Moyer was employed at Merck Co., Inc., Riverside, Pa. and worked there until retirement.   

He was a supporter of many local charities and a member of the Masons, Kiwanis, the Danville Elks, and the American Legion.

 He had a deep love for the Susquehanna River, with many fond memories of swimming at the 2nd pier, sitting on the elephant rock, and rowing his flat bottom wooden boat to the lower island.  Years ago he and his best friend, Taffy, a mixed collie, would spend many hours wading in the river trying to catch the big one.  His greatest joy in life was a visit from grandchildren, and in recent years the great grandchildren also captured his heart.  Many hours were spent on the front porch with family reminiscing about the good old days, excursions on the river, and his childhood friends.

Mr. Moyer is survived by one son, Francis C. Moyer and his wife Linda of Danville, Pa., and one daughter Cathy J. Reamer and her husband John of Riverside, Pa.  Also surviving are four grand children; Kiley R. Moyer, Nicole L. Outt and her husband Christopher, Francis R. Moyer and Kimberly R. Fausey and her husband Mark.  Five great grand children Caleb A. Moyer, and the triplets, Riley R. Outt, Olivia J. Outt, Christopher J. Outt II and Greydon J. Fausey,  and  family friend Deborah Servose

Relatives and friends may call on the family from 10:00 to 11:00am on Friday at Visneski Funeral Home, 10 West Mahoning St., Danville, PA, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am, with the Reverend Dr. Robert J. Andrews officiating.  Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville, PA.
