Dorothy Ruth Stecker Halfmann, 88, of 1000 Strawbridge Road Northumberland PA where she had resided since 2000 died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Nottingham Village Nursing Center Northumberland PA.  She was born May 1, 1920 in Mt. Carmel PA the daughter of the late H. Marshall and Genevieve E. Watkins Stecker. 

She graduated from Dickenson Seminary, now Lycoming College in Williamsport PA and from Wheaton College in Norton MA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics.  Mrs. Halfmann was employed by TPF&C in Philadelphia developing the first pension plans.  She lived in the Philadelphia area until she moved to Bloomsburg in 1986. 

Mrs. Halfmann was a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ Danville PA and a former member of the Ivy Club and Embroiders Guild Bloomsburg PA. 

She enjoyed playing bridge, playing the piano, doing needlepoint and traveling. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward S. Halfmann whom she married May 15, 1943.  Surviving is her daughter, Ginny Wilkinson of Danville PA and two granddaughters; Liz Wilkinson of Lansdale PA and Margie Wilkinson of Los Angeles California.  Also surviving is her sister, Virginia Weidman and her husband Richard of Wyomissing PA and two nephews.  She was preceded in death by her son-in-law David M. Wilkinson, M.D. 

A  Memorial Service at Shiloh United Church of Christ Danville PA will be held Saturday, October 11, 2008 11:00 AM.  Friends will be received from 10:00 until the time of service at the church. Burial will be private in Mount Carmel Cemetery Mount Carmel PA.  Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh United Church of Christ 500 Bloom Street Danville PA.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home Inc 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA.  www.visneski.com
