Verna V. DeGreen, 90

February 4, 2006

Verna V. DeGreen, 90, of 47 Cherry Street Danville PA died  Friday afternoon, February 3, 2006 at her residence.  She was born February 18, 1915 in Washingtonville, PA the daughter of the late George W. and Mary Savannah Heimbach DeGreen.

Miss DeGreen was raised and worked on her family farm in Washingtonville until 1960 until her family moved to Danville PA.  She also worked at Chef-Boyardee in Milton, PA and in the Housekeeping Department at Geisinger Medical Center where she retired.

She was a devoted friend and neighbor to many who will miss her dearly.   Her warm home was always open to her friends where she provided unconditional love and support.  She was an avid gardener and provided gardening tips to many. One of her greatest passions was caring for and raising her peach trees.   An avid homemaker, she especially enjoyed baking pies, cookies, cakes and her famous cinnamon rolls and then sharing them with her friends.  In recent years she particularly enjoyed jointly preparing Sunday evening dinner with her friends and sharing laughter and memories around the table.  She also enjoyed sewing and lovingly taking care of her family of African Violets.

Miss DeGreen was the last immediate member of her family.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters many of whom she cared for tenderly before their deaths.

A Celebration of Verna’s life will be held Tuesday, February 7th at 11:00 AM from the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA  17821 with Geisinger Hospice Chaplain Robert D. Barner officiating.  Burial will follow in Strawberry Ridge Cemetery, Strawberry Ridge, PA.  Friends will be received from 9:30 AM until the time of service.
