Russell F. Bassett, 86

February 4, 2006

Russell F. Bassett, 86, of 16 Rushtown Road Danville PA where he had resided since 1946 died Thursday afternoon, February 2, 2005 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA. 

He was born September 13, 1919 in Rush Township Northumberland County Pennsylvania the son of the late Jeremiah S. and Kathryn Yeager Bassett.  He graduated from Danville High School in 1937.  He served as a sergeant with the United States Army during World War II.  He was employed for 42 years by PP&L retiring in 1982 as a multi-purpose foreman.  Mr. Bassett was an active member of St. Peterís United Methodist Church Riverside, PA.  He was a member of PPL Retirees.  He enjoyed gardening and golfing and was especially fond of bird feeding and watching.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Esther Forney Bassett whom he married May 27, 1942.  Also surviving is one son David E. Bassett and his wife Marie K. of Paradise, PA and one daughter Jane B. Herman and her husband Kenneth E. of Danville PA.  One grandson Mark D. Bassett and one granddaughter Marcie H. Riebe also survive.  One brother, Carl Bassett RD Danville PA also survives him.  He is also survived by three sisters; Beatrice Erdman of Danville PA; Geraldine Herman of Sunbury RD PA and Isabelle Fleming of Bloomsburg PA.   He was preceded in death by two brothers; Alvin and Clarence Bassett.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 6, 2006 at 11:00 AM from Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA with his pastor the Reverend Dr. Donald N. Hurley officiating.  Burial will follow in Rush Presbyterian Cemetery, Snydertown Road Danville PA.  Friends will be received from 9:30 until the time of service.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peterís United Methodist Church Box 428 Riverside PA 17868.
