Myrtle M. “Alabama” Kessler, 78

Myrtle M. “Alabama”  Kessler, 78, of 15 “A” Street Danville PA died Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville PA after having made a brave decision to have surgery to fight a brain tumor.   She was born July 4, 1927 in Greenville Alabama the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Gaston. 

She was employed by Roslyn Yarns Danville PA for many years.  Following the closing of the plant she was employed at Geisinger Medical Center Housekeeping Dept. where she retired.  Mrs. Kessler was a member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church Danville PA.  She enjoyed listening to country music, doing crossword puzzles, reading and enjoyed playing bingo.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored.   

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Robert T. Kessler who died January 5 2004.  She is survived by one son Mark T. Kessler and daughter-in-law Ursula of Danville PA and three daughters; Mrs. Gwendolyn J. and son-in-law James W Lewis, Sr. Danville PA; Mrs. Kathryn L and son-in-law Terry L Bowers of Selinsgrove PA and Mrs. Mary Lou and son-in-law Larry D. Raup Danville PA.  Also surviving are nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters; Bonnie Davenport and Mabel Moore; both of Greenville, Alabama.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter Crystal Lewis and one brother Leonard Gaston and one sister Matilda Major.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8 2006 at 11:00 AM from Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA with the Reverend Frank A. Edmands officiating.  Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA.  Friends will be received from 10:00 AM until time of service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Memorial Episcopal Church PO Box 363 Danville PA 17821.  Because of her love of animals, especially her faithful dog Cracker Jack, memorials may also be made to Danville SPCA 2801 Bloom Road Danville PA  17821. www.visneski.com
