Marlin Richard Bryer, 72

Marlin Richard Bryer, 72, of 68 D & H Avenue Riverside, PA died Tuesday afternoon, February 28, 2006 at his residence.  He was born April 26, 1933 in Mausdale PA the son of the late Marlin G. and Mary Gotschal Bryer.

He graduated from Danville High School. He served as a private in the United States Army.  Mr. Bryer was employed as a psychiatric aide at Danville State Hospital from where he retired.  He was also employed part-time as a bagger for Weis Markets after his retirement.  Mr. Bryer was a member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Riverside PA.  He was also a member of Southside Fire Company Riverside PA and Friendship Fire Company in Danville PA.  Mr. Bryer was a member of American Legion Post 40 Danville PA.  He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Senior League at Midway Lanes Danville PA.  An avid hunter, he was a member for over 50 years of the Buckhorn Hunting Camp White Deer PA.  He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid NASCAR and football fan.  Mr. Bryer enjoyed driving his Speedex Tractor at local tractor pulls and parades.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley M. “Sia” Lewis Bryer whom he married June 10, 1956.  He is survived by a son, John Anthony Vezo of Danville, PA and two daughters, Linda M. Zehner of Danville, PA and Barbara M. Bird and son-in-law Danny of Fredericksburg, VA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and by one sister, Emma Jean Snyder of Danville, PA.  He was preceded in death by one daughter Marlene F. Bryer in July 1980.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 11:00 AM from the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc., 10 West Mahoning St. Danville, PA with his pastor the Rev. Dr. Donald N. Hurley officiating.  Burial will follow in Straub’s Lutheran Cemetery Frosty Valley Road Danville PA.  Friends will be received from 9:30 AM until the time of service.  Military rites will be accorded by the Montour County Veteran’s Association.  Memorial contributions may be made to SUN Home Health Hospice 61 Duke Street Northumberland PA  17857.
