Alfons A. Schmidt, 90

Alfons A. Schmidt, 90, formerly of  1994 Avenue G – Danville PA where he was a self-employed crop and dairy farmer died Saturday at Grandview Health Homes, Inc. Danville PA.  He was born January 15, 1916 in Danville PA the son of the late Alfred E. and Elsie Fleschel Schmidt.   

He graduated from Danville High School in 1934. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church Riverside PA.  Mr. Schmidt was employed for a few years as a farm hand for the Henry Voelcker farm in Danville PA.  He was then employed for 18 years by the Danville State Hospital as the chicken manager and later by Kennedy Van Saun Danville PA for 16 years as a tool and die maker from where he retired.  He enjoyed fishing and bowling. 

He was married for 62 years to the late Madeline R. Reeder Schmidt.  He is survived by two sons; Ronald L. Schmidt and daughter-in-law Linda L. of Danville, PA and Kenneth W. Schmidt, Sr. and daughter-in-law Ruth E. of Rock Hill, South Carolina.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by one sister Mildred Overbaugh of New Oxford PA. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16th at 11:00 AM from the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville PA with his pastor the Reverend Dr. Donald N. Hurley officiating.  Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery Danville PA.  Friends will be received from 9:30 AM until the time of service.
