Donald E. Bennick, 52

November 18, 2005

Donald E. Bennick, 52, 45 Murphy Road Danville, PA died Thursday, November 17, 2005 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville, PA.  He was born August 22, 1953 in Sunbury, PA the son of George E. “Sam” and Arlene M. Potter Bennick of Sunbury, PA. 

He graduated from both Shikellamy High School and SUN Vo-Tech in 1971.  He was retired from Shippers Car Line in Milton, PA and a self-employed carpenter.

Donnie was an active and devoted member of the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church Sunbury PA where he served as an Adult Sunday School teacher, chairman of the Pastor/Parish Relations Committee, member of The Men’s Group and Vacation Bible School teacher.  He was the president of the Shikellamy region Antique Automobile Club of America. One of his greatest passions was his involvement in the Northumberland County Habitat for Humanity where he consistently gave of his time and carpentry skills.

Donnie was an avid hunter, Pittsburgh Steelers fan and history buff.  He especially enjoyed owning and restoring Ford Model A’s. 

Donnie was a compassionate and loving man who is survived by his wife of 32 years, Donna J. Russell Bennick whom he married November 25, 1972.  Also surviving is one son, SSgt Samuel R. Bennick, Elmendorf AFB Anchorage Alaska and one daughter, Jennifer L. Bennick Danville, PA and her fiancé Ronald Evenson.  One granddaughter, Martina, also survives him.  Also surviving is his twin brother Ronald Bennick and his wife Marsha of Sunbury, PA and one sister, Glenda Elias and her husband Anthony and family of Warrington, PA 

A celebration of Donnie’s life will be held Monday at 11:30 AM from the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church 319 Catawissa Avenue Sunbury PA with his pastor the Reverend Thomas D.Schroeder officiating assisted by Pastor David W. Stough of Mt. Pleasant and Klinesgrove United Methodist Churches.  Burial will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park Stonington, PA.  Friends will be received from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northumberland County Habitat for Humanity PO Box 49 Northumberland, PA 17857.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 W Mahoning Street Danville, PA
