David N. Hackenberg, 54

David N. Hackenberg, 54, 918 Red Lane Danville, PA went home to be with his Lord Thursday  morning, December 15, 2005 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville, PA after a courageous ten year battle with cancer.  He was born June 1, 1951 in Danville, PA the son of Leonard N. Hackenberg of Danville, PA and the late Theresa A. Santucci Hackenberg. 

He graduated from Danville High School in 1969.  He was employed for over 30 years at Metso Minerals formerly Kennedy Van Saun of Danville, PA., most recently as the Manager of the Spare Parts Department.   Mr. Hackenberg was a member of the Grove Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder andYouth Group Advisor.  He also taught the Junior and Senior High Sunday School Class and went on several church mission trips. 

Mr. Hackenberg served on the Mahoning Township Water Authority.  He was a member of the Danville Recreation Authority.  He was actively involved from the beginning with the planning and building of the Danville Area Community Center, Danville, PA.  He also served on the Planning Committee for the Relay of Life.  He assisted in coaching the Danville High School Bowling Team. 

Mr. Hackenberg’s passion was the Danville Area Little League where he was actively involved from 1979 to the present.  He was very well known as a coach and umpire and he also served on the  Board where he was a past president.  Mr. Hackenberg was a huge sports fan and especially enjoyed attending both Danville High School and Penn State football games. 

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Merry B. Shutt Hackenberg whom he married June 30, 1973 and two sons; Michael D. Hackenberg of Northumberland, PA and Philip N. Hackenberg at home.

A memorial service will be held Monday, December 19th at 11:30 AM from the Grove Presbyterian Church 330 Bloom Street with his pastor the Reverend Dr. Robert J. Andrews officiating.  Burial will be private.  Friends will be received in the Great Room of the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.  Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society Montour Unit 1948 E 3rd Street Williamsport, PA  17701-3945, Danville Area Little League PO Box 224  Danville, PA  17821 or the Memorial Fund of Grove Presbyterian Church 332 Bloom Street Danville, PA  17821.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 West Mahoning Street Danville, PA .
