Alda Fanney Baer,
72, of 25 Pepper Hills Danville, PA died Wednesday morning, August 31, 2005
at Geisinger Medical Center Danville, PA. She was born May 5, 1933 in
Isafjordur, Iceland the daughter of the late Gestur Sigurdsson and Kristin
Jonsdottir. She moved to the United States at the age of nineteen and
became a US Citizen in 1970.
Mrs. Baer was
employed as an operating room surgical technician at Geisinger Medical
Center Danville, PA, retiring in 1993. She was a member of The Danville
Elks. She enjoyed cooking and especially enjoyed tasting diverse foods. An
avid traveler, Mrs. Baer traveled to Iceland, Denmark, Japan and Mexico.
She also enjoyed a cruise to South America.
She was preceded
in death in October of 1989 by her husband of 37 years, Glenn William Baer
whom she married May 4, 1952. She is survived by a dear niece Stefania
Gunnarsdottir of Loveland, Colorado and one brother Sigurdur Gestsson of
Iceland and two sisters; Bara Gestsdottir of Houston, TX and Soley
Gestsdottir of Iceland. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and
several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. Mrs. Baer is also survived by
two special friends and caregivers; Ron and Doretta Herr of Danville, PA.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three brothers and
services will be held Friday, September 2, 2005 at 12:00 Noon at First
Baptist Church 20 Brookside Drive Valley Township Danville, PA with the
Reverend David J. Mouw, Associate Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in
Iceland. Friends will be received from 11:00 AM until the time of service
at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Geisinger Medical
Center Memorial Fund Academy Avenue Danville, PA 17822. Arrangements are
under the direction of the Visneski Funeral Home, Inc. 10 West Mahoning
Street Danville, PA.
