DANVILLE - Pershing C. Phillips Sr., 85, of 4 Kaseville Road, died
Monday evening, Aug. 18, 2003, at Grandview Health Homes. He
was born October 2, 1917 in Danville, PA the son of the late Jasper and Ruth
Mr. Phillips was a
Gunnerís mate First Class in the United States Navy during World War II in
the Pacific Theatre. He was employed as Head of Maintenance for the
Danville Area School District retiring in 1982. He was a member of St.
Johnís United Church of Christ, Mausdale, PA where he had served on the
Consistory Board. He enjoyed hunting and painting.
He is survived by his
wife of 57 years, Anna M. Herman whom he married March 4, 1946. He is also
survived by one son Pershing C. Phillips, II. and daughter-in-law Linda of
Hamilton, Montana and one daughter, Anna Mae Fritz and son-in-law Gary of
Danville, PA; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving
is one sister; Pearle Zupko of Hanover Township, Luzerne County, PA. He was
preceded in death by one grandson, Pershing C. Phillips, III, four
brothers; Arthur, Sumner, Woodrow and Coolidge Phillips and two sisters;
Genevieve and Goldie Phillips.
Funeral services will
be held Thursday at 2:00 PM from the
Miller-Visneski Funeral Home 10 West Mahoning Street Danville, PA with
the Reverend John Winckler officiating. Burial will be private in Straubís
Lutheran Cemetery Danville, PA. Friends will be received from 12:00 Noon
until the time of service.
