Richard C. Olsen, 77, Huntington Valley

HUNTINGTON VALLEY - Richard Carl Olsen, 77, of Huntington Valley, formerly of Danville, died Tuesday morning, June 3, 2003, at Holy Redeemer Hospital, Meadowbrook, after a short illness.

He was born March 23, 1926, in Danville, a son of the late Victor and Margaret (Foulk) Olsen. He and the former Vera Foust were married Aug. 5, 1950.  During World War II, Mr. Olsen served in the Navy as a machinist mate on two submarines, the USS Finback and the USS Arule. Following the war, he attended Northrup Aeronautical Institute in California.  He then returned to Danville to work for the Danville Art and Bronze Co. He was employed by Merck & Co., Riverside, and then transferred to the West Point Division of Merck, where he retired in May 1986 after 35 years of employment.  Mr. Olsen was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather.  Surviving, in addition to his wife of 52 years, are three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Robert Neylan of Dover, Del., Jane and Colin Leonard of Chatham, Mass and Joan and William Guiney of Chester Springs; seven grandchildren, Chip Wesley of San Diego, Jennifer Neylan Brennan of Marietta, Ga., Kevin Leonard of Manchester, N.H., Alyson Wesley and Jeffrey Leonard, both of Chatham, and Lauren and Susan Neylan of Dover.  Visitors may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 8 County Line Drive, Grovania, Danville) where the funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Ray Jones.  Burial with military rites by the Montour County Veterans Association will be in the church cemetery.  Contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 8 County Line Drive, Danville, PA 17821. 

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller-Visneski Funeral Home, 10 W. Mahoning St., Danville.
