RIVERSIDE - Ruth E. Lewis, 85, of 905 Avenue I, died Thursday morning, March
27, 2003, at her home.
was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Mausdale, a daughter of the late Ralph G. and
Anna (Quigg) Cope. She and Robert C. Lewis were married March 19, 1943. He
preceded her in death Jan. 7, 1967.
She was a 1937 graduate of Danville High School.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed for five years by the Pennsylvania
Department of Agriculture, Harrisburg.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 40, Danville
Chapter 186 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Montour County Historical
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Mausdale.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen R. and Sally Lewis of New
Holland; and one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn L. "Kay" and Dennis
Sharrow of Catawissa; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one
sister, Henrietta Smith of Reedsville, Va.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Robert and Donald
Cope, and three sisters, Clara Gephart, Mabel O'Rangers and Dorothy Cope.
Visitors may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Miller-Visneski Funeral
Home, 10 W. Mahoning St., Danville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at St.
John's United Church of Christ, Mausdale. The funeral will be conducted at
11 a.m. Monday at the church by the Rev. Paul W. Cope. Contributions
