Helen R. Gross

Helen R. Gross, 84, formerly of 114 Cherry Street Danville, PA and of Vintage Knolls at Grandview died early Saturday morning, September 13, 2003 at Grandview Health Home where she had resided for the past three years.  She was born October 30, 1918 in Danville, PA the daughter of the late Owen G. and Sarah Mitchell Roberts. 

She graduated from Danville High School in 1936.  She was employed as a medical secretary at Geisinger Medical Center in the Pathology Department where she retired in 1980.  After her retirement, she served as a volunteer at Geisinger Medical Center.  Mrs. Gross was a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ.  She enjoyed crafting and needlework.

She was married to the late John E. Gross who preceded her in death September 4, 1967.  She is survived by one daughter, Joan E. Backenstoe and son-in-law Kenneth of Walnutport, PA.  She is also survived by three grandsons; Casey, Travis and Cody Backenstoe and a sister Dorothy Runyan of Bloomsburg, PA.  In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers; William Roberts and John Roberts.

A private graveside service will be held in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, PA with her pastor the Reverend Brian E. Cope officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh United Church of Christ 500 Bloom Street Danville, PA.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller-Visneski Funeral Home 10 West Mahoning Street Danville, PA.
